help!

Two quick things we want some advice on...

1) Thumb sucking.  Lil has been a thumb sucker since she first found her chubby finger at 5 weeks old, and while she doesn't seem to be "needing" it for security, etc. anymore, she still sucks it regularly when tired or watching a movie and while she's sleeping.  What worked for you?  When did you start breaking your child of this habit?  What finally did the trick?  Is this way too early to even be thinking about this?  Any ideas???

2) Baby wraps/carriers.  We had a baby carrier for Lily that was never very comfortable for us or for her, cut across her face, and was physically impossible to use without the help of three people :)  With Lily still being so young, walking being such a huge part of our daily life, and Sofie on the way, I'd love to get some kind of a baby carrier or wrap that someone can tell me that they LOVED.  Anyone know of a brand or type out there that you couldn't have done without, or that friends of yours loved?  Something washable, easy to use, comfortable?

Comment on this blog or send us an email if you have any help with either of these things...THANK YOU!

Our mutual friend Elisa referred me to this post. I don't have a thumb sucker, but I know of mommy of 5 thumb suckers if you want to ask her [she's my bff], email her at: Sarah Martin sarah@nrmcreativemarketing.com and her blog is: www.martinmommy.com

For your second question, hands down, what you want to invest in is an Ergo. Yes, they are nearly $100, but I've used mine through three kids [and counting] and you can wear the babies from infancy [with infant insert] till they are 3+ years old]

I'm a babywearer, and I have owned/used a zillion different kids. I highly recommend this one as it is ergonomically designed to put the weight of the baby on your hips where you are naturally made to carry a baby.

It's easy to wash, can be worn on your sides, back [my fav] and front. Kids love it! Naps, everyday, hikes, you name it. I can't say enough good things about it.

You won't find used, because no one ever sells theirs!

Ergocarrier - LOVE IT and use it all the time! It can be worn front, side, or back. http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/

Isaac sucked his thumb to 3yrs, longer at night. Rachel sucked a pacifier till I threw it away at 2 1/2, when she promptly started sucking her thumb! Quit after she turned 4 - neither kid had braces. So, don't stress over Lily (are you surprised my advise is "dont stress"?)

hey stacey,

i have used and loved (and will use again) the ergo baby carrier for ephraim and my new baby. i didn't get the infant insert though, so when they were super small i used a wrap called storchenweige (very very similar to the moby - just made of a stronger material) which i loved for when the baby was small - it was super easy to tie and ephraim would fall asleep almost instantly when i would put him in there and we would walk around.

And i CANNOT say enough good things about the Ergo. If you have to go with ONE carrier, that is the one to get. Seriously. Benjamin can wear him in it, I can wear him in it, and you can use it up to a ridiculous amt. of poundage. Also super super super easy to put on - especially in the front position.

Hope this helps!

I have baby #2 arriving later this year and definitely plan to make my own Moby Wrap. I had a different wrap with #1 and it just didn't work out. The Moby Wrap can be easily made with 5-6 yards of a jersey knit fabric and usually one purchase of such fabric makes 2 or 3. It has many different wearing options and definitely is easier on the wallet than buying a wrap!

God bless!
